Building Relationships through a Practical Response to Behavior

Modeled after the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports system used in schools throughout the country, and drawing on the principles of trauma informed parenting, Reset Families will help caregivers discover a strategic approach for building strong relational connections while preparing kids to be accountable for managing their behavior.

Each 8-week session is 90 minutes of instruction and discussion:

  • A social and emotional restorative approach designed for all families, with sensitivity to families who have experienced trauma
  • Instruction helps caregivers create a family culture that promotes strong family connections, established routines, clear expectations, consistent feedback and consequences that are reasonable, related and restorative.
  • Teaches caregivers to give consistent responses to behavior in a way that helps kids become successful self-managers.

Curriculum is designed to:

  • Be used by parent educators who have received training, increasing family engagement and creating strong family-school/community partnerships.
  • Help participants meet other parents and share ideas.
  • Help parents discover their potential as caregivers and gain skills to increase their confidence and satisfaction with parenting.
  • Connect caregivers to community resources and build a network of support

Reviews

  1. Parent

I’m more attentive to my son’s emotional state as well as my own. I yell less and everyone seems happier.

  2. Parent

Reset Families has literally changed our lives. Since starting this program with my son, we have significantly reduced his behavior problems at school. He used to go to the principal’s office at least two times a week. We are now past Spring Break and have only been called once this year! It is nice not to cringe when I see the school name on my caller ID. Thank You Reset Families!

  3. Parent

Now I have a framework, a structure that works for everybody. Now it is easier to be consistent.

  4. CPS Referred Parent

I have had to take three other parenting classes and they did absolutely nothing for me. I like the interaction with the other parents and being able to talk about what our children are doing and how we can correct it instead of being told “This is what you have to do”.

  5. Parent Presenter

The concepts in this course help families re-establish a strong, loving relationship. The tools help parents meet the day to day challenges of shaping their children’s behavior and help children develop the social and emotional skills they need to be successful in life.

When parents begin this course, many are in a perpetual power struggle with their children. It’s enormously rewarding and heartwarming to watch the transformation to families who can relax and enjoy all aspects of their lives. When parents and children feel successful, they have the confidence, energy and desire to help others and that benefits everyone in their community!

  6. Table Leader

As a table leader, I find that I learn something from each session. No individual class is ever the same as those that preceded it; every participant has their own successes and troubles. Leading small group discussions is by far my favorite part of the program. Witnessing parents coming together to discuss what worked for them from the last session, or seeing the relief on their faces when the realize they are not the only one with a particular problem is wonderful. Hearing back that they were able to solve their most stressful daily issue and both they and their children are better for it is what keeps me coming back. Knowing that you truly helped someone is the best feeling.
